Moody Centre is a new Evergreen Extension SkyTrain station that was built directly on the northwest corner of the parking lot/where some trees once was of the now renamed also to Moody Center former Port Moody West Coast Express Station. This station was built at ground-level with the SkyTrain tracks running parallel and at the same level as the CP Line/West Coast Express tracks. During construction access had to be maintained across the new SkyTrain alignment since the Port Moody West Coast Express station remained open throughout construction, and today the only way to reach the West Coast Express platform is through the SkyTrain station. This station has the best connection along the Evergreen Extension to the West Coast Express with a much shorter walk compared to Coquitlam Central.
For SkyTrain passengers the station contains a single island platform that is fully covered (that extends out to be near the tracks a very wide canopy structure with a natural wood looking bottom giving the station a modern (2016) classy look design. The walls along the tracks located at ground-level are made of glass providing unique views across the SkyTrain tracks and to the central island platform. For exiting there is a mezzanine over the southern end of the platform. This mezzanine is along the same roofline that graceful doubles in height for the mezzanine. The mezzanine begins with a staircase, followed by a set of escalators and then an elevator down to the southern end of the platform. Between the escalators and elevator is the mezzanine cross-bridges that lead over the SkyTrain tracks.
To the south (left from the staircase) is access to the station’s only exit via a combined staircase/two escalators next to an elevator. These lead down to faregates and the station’s entrance area directly parallel to the Lafarge Lake Douglas-bound track. This entrance area is located at the Northeast Corner of the station’s set of sawtooth bus stops set directly parallel to the SkyTrain tracks that are mostly west of the station platforms. This entrance is what would be the end of Williams Street, with the intersection of Williams Street and Spring Street that provides the closest access to the surrounding community a good 200 feet away south past the edge of the station’s parking lots.
To north from the mezzanine is not an additional exit but the only access to the West Coast Express station, with a gate closing off the West Coast Express outside of Peak Direction rush hours when trains are not running.
The station mezzanine has Conoe, 2016 by School District 43 Students hanging from the ceiling. This art project restored a conoe that was originally built by Aboriginal students at the Centennial Secondary School and is decorated with the ancient design of the two-headed serpent Sisiult. After being in regular use the canoe was put into storage before being restored by Students from the Suwa’lkh Secondary School in 2015 and is now artwork in the station.
