Iris Avenue is a simple original San Diego Trolley station with platforms that are basically tar across and on each side of the track areas with tactile warning strips near the edges of both tracks. The southern end of the platforms are the grade crossing with Iris Avenue. The southbound platform has the single rather large waiting shelter with benches and TVMs beneath. The northbound platform has 3 metal bus shelters with benches beneath them. It also has the station's bus loop with 8 connecting routes. There are two small parking lots for a total of 192 parking spaces: one is triangular along the northbound platform between Iris Avenue and 30 Street (where the entrance to the bus loop is ). The other is another triangular one between Iris Avenue and the southbound platform.
Iris Avenue was rebuilt between October 2014 through May 2015, there are now two modern six-inch high platforms each with two cream colored larger canopies. Ballast now lines the middle of the tracks with four level-crossings between the platforms. This project also added a second lane to the bus loop. Now there is a main bus island loop with 8 bays (4 on each side), and a second island with 3 bus bays that are longer and designed to accomidate articulated buses.
