Dongan Hills is a Staten Island Railway station for two side platforms for the two track line, that each have 3 entrances. The station was grade separated in 1933 and is located on a grassy embankment. The station is ADA accessible, with one entrance at the southern end of each platform via a set of long covered ADA accessible ramp that wends its way to each platform via an intermediate landing. This ramp is accessed from Seaview Avenue, at Railroad Avenue for the Tottenville-bound platform, and Hancock Street (both streets run parallel to the railroad) for the St. George-bound platform.
Across Seaview Avenue, the design of each platform differs. The St. George-bound platform contains a small brick station house directly along the platform. I don’t have good information if this small waiting room is ever open but there is still a bench inside. It was staffed until 1987 and had a vending machine for tokens until 1997 when fare control was abolished at this station, and fares began only being collected at St George. This brick station house is very visible above the street because it juts out from the elevated lines embankment to a small 40 space Park & Ride Lot, with signs that say the free parking is for Staten Island Railway customers only. To enter the platform two staircases leads up, one from each corner of the parking lot. The southern one is from the north side of Seaview Avenue, and the southern one close to the intersection of Garretson Avenue. The stretch of the planform between the staircases is covered by a canopy structure.
The rest of the Tottenville-bound platform is simpler. It contains a canopy structure that covers about a car-length. This is the conventional SIR canopy structure with pink supports, decorative circles and glass block windscreens. Two staircases lead down off it, one to the SE corner of Railroad Avenue and Garretson Avenue, the other along Railroad Avenue about 60 feet north of Seaview Avenue.
