Mount Baker Station is an elevated station and just north of it trains curve to the west and enter the new mile long Beacon Hill Tunnel. The concrete portals are labeled with Beacon Tunnel ST (logo) 2008 engraved into them.
This station itself has two side platforms each with tall glass walls for most of their lengths and canopies only towards their northern ends where an up escalator/staircase and an elevator lead down to the station's entrance plaza at street level. Along the glass walls along the staircases is Rain, Steam and Speed by Guy Kemper consisting of blown glass along the walls of the platforms.
The entrance plaza beneath is quite large and contains the stations TVMs and ORCA targets. Suspended from the roof of the guideway is Sky Within by Shelia Klein, it consists of a painted ceiling and six chandlers to illuminate it at night. There are also two interpretative displays about the Olmstead Family's legacy in Seattle on landscape architecture. The entrance plaza is bounded Forest Street to the north and Winthrop Street to the south and Rainer Avenue to the east. Across Rainer Avenue is a bus loop for 7 King County Metro routes including trolleybus routes 7 and 14. The surrounding area feels a bit industrial and light commercial.
