A larger than life statue outside the station house honors two seperate heros from the area at the turn of the last century (early 1900s). Aviator Bessica (Bessie) Raiche, the first woman in the United States accredited with flying a plane slowly, and Roxey, the LIRR's mascot when he got off a train in Garden City in 1901, traveling on trains until his death in 1914.
