Lafarge Lake-Douglas is the terminus of the Evergreen Extension of the Millennium Line that opened on December 2, 2016. The elevated station contains a single island platform for the two-track line with both tracks ending in bumper blocks a bit beyond the station. These bumper blocks are far enough away that in theory the line could be extended without impacting the current station. Trains use two sets of crossovers just before the station to get to the opposite track of the two-track line before the station. Platform 1 – the right hand-side track in the direction of VCC-Clark signed as the track where all trains depart from. The switches just south of the station are configured in a way that the switch from the LaFarge Lake-Douglas-bound track to the VCC-Clark-bound track is just before the station with the switch for trains going to the opposite and normally unused track about 500 feet south of the end of the station platform, so all trains using Platform 1 make sense. The automated driverless nature of the SkyTrain allows for much faster train turnaround times than a conventional metro system where a train driver needs to switch ends.
The single island platform is completely covered by a faux-wooden looking canopy structure held up by simple grey-painted steel beams. The track walls are made of glass allowing views out to the surrounding area.
To leave the platform a staircase, followed by a bank of two escalators followed by an elevator at the southern end of the platform lead down to street-level. This mezzanine area has glass walls and leads out to a single bank of faregates. There are exits on each side. To the west is an entrance plaza about five steps above (with a ramp down) the NE corner of Guildford Way and Pinetree Way. The street is at a bit of a hill so the eastern entrance is at sidewalk level.
Under the northern end of the platform is an enclosed by glass bicycle locker area that provides bicyclists more security than parking on a normal on street bike rack. Across Guildford Way from the station is a small 100 space park & ride lot alongside the SkyTrain’s elevated structure. As of 2024 parking costs $4 a day.
Artwork at the station is in two installations. In the entrance plaza is TransLake by Trent Hutton, where a concrete frog that looks like it’s coming out of the ground. Along the sides of opening in the platform facing the escalators up to it is Monohedral Tesselation a large piece of Pine Bettle infested wood that has been laser engraved with landmarks and scenes from the surrounding community.
Finally when I visited in October 2022 there was a temporary exhibition of photographs. This was All that we carry by Angeline Simon (b. 1993). These prints were part of the Capture Photography Festival and showed images based on a patchwork of old family photographs found by the artist. According to the sign these were up from February 2022 through February 2023.
