Eugene, OR is the southern terminus of the Amtrak Cascades corridor with terminus of the two commuter oriented (two northbound AM and southbound PM) Oregon DOT subsided Amtrak Cascades trips that will increase when Oregon gets two new trainsets that are on order from Talgo delivered. The station has recieved service continuously since the creation of Amtrak from the Coast Starlight. This train uses the station as a very brief smoke stop (the conductor discussed how he leaves people behind all the time). The first attempt by the State of Oregon for additional service came via two daily round-trips to Portland called the Willamette Valley that ran from August 3, 1980 to December 31, 1981. The current Oregon Talgo trips began with the first one on November 1, 1994, the second in 2000 that run on a day-trip to Portland Schedule.

The stop is fully staffed and baggage service is provided for all three departures and is open from 4:30am to 9:00pm and re-opens from 11:00pm to 12:45am for the late night Cascades arrival. The stop is located in the center of the town home to the University of Oregon. The depot was built in 1908 and is a brick structure with long wooden benches inside for waiting passengers, a Quik-Trak kiosk, restrooms, the ticket office with a silver, modern Amtrak logo behind it, and a few photographs of historic Eugene including streetcars. A monitor displays the scheduled departures and on time information on what is an Excel spreadsheet updated from the ticket office; Amtrak really needs standard software for these displays, every stop does something differently. The depot leads out to a long and simple platform with just a yellow line and no tactile warning strip. The platform has black lammposts and towards its far ends are a number of white signs with black text that say Eugene Depot with each pole numbered.
