Massapequa Park
Amityville is an elevated Montaulk/Bablylon Line Station on a concrete guideway that opened on August 7, 1973 replacing the former street-level line. It is the eastern most of the three stations to be moved that day onto a new five-mile elevated structure that eliminated 11 grade crossings. It is the easternmost station on the branch in Suffolk County. The station has the normal island platform that can accommodate 10 cars and is canopied for its entire length except for about a car at its extreme eastern end. This canopy has single metal supports holding up a concrete roof. The platform runs from just east of John Street (the eastern end) to just before Burch Avenue. John Street has two staircases up to the platform, one from each side of the street. Burch Avenue has just one. The staircases all have red sides.
In the middle of the platform is the small modern station house nestled beneath the tracks. This building has red concrete walls that are beneath black lettering that says Amityville on the sides of the elevated structure. Inside is a ticket office, with a silver window that doesn't have black lettering for tickets above it, currently open Monday to Thursdays from 6:10am to 1:45pm. The room is weekdays only from 5:00am to 2:00pm. This small white tiled waiting room also has a few black benches and restrooms. Above on the platform is the on platform shelter. The exterior has the same red walls. Inside is accessed via doors at each end is a room with old blue bricks between the lines of windows with silver frames. There is a nasty smell and two modern chairs, two old wooden benches. The main entrance to the platform is just west of the station building with a combined up escalator/staircase up to the platform.
