Madison/Wabash (signs in 2006 just said Madison) is a downtown loop station that has booth a free crossover and a free crossunder, making it a transfer point between lines in the loop. The two side platforms at the station have canopies over a good portion of their wooden platforms. The canopies are held up by nondescript wooden pillars. The inner loop (Purple, Orange, Pink, and southbound Green Lines) platform is longer than the outer loop (Brown and westbound Green Lines) platform. The covered pedestrian bridge between the platforms is located towards the southern end of the station. Narrow staircases lead up to both ends and there is no meshing making it a great place to get an overhead, unrestricted view of the loop with just a low fence for protection. To leave the platform in the middle, two staircases lead down to a dark face control area that has been built on what were originally just walkways beneath the platform, there no doors or a real station house to enter. Here there is one small bank of turnstiles on the northern side, a high turnstile is also between the staircases down from the inner loop platform only. Streetstairs lead out to all four corners of Madison and Wabash.
Station Closure:The station was perminately closed on March 16, 2015 to allow the Washington/Wabash station to be built partially in it's former footprint
