Gaslap Quarter in the southern stop of the Waterfront Extension which made the loop Orange Line Trains use today and opened on June 30, 1990. The stop was kept open during the construction of the slightly higher platforms for S70 operations in the first half of 2012, and Green Line trains took over service in September 2012. The station has the standard two side platforms which begin at the grade crossing of 5th Avenue and run southwest. Each has a single red bench-less shelter for the only amenity for waiting passengers. The Downtown/Old Town-bound platform has a 2D pink decorative sign with a yellow trim and Gaslamp Quarter written in yellow. It is alongside a plaza just before the Omni Hotel with 6th Avenue ending at a dead end a short ways before the platform. The entrance arch to the Gaslap Quarter above 5th Avenue is visible a short ways north of the station and it is the closest stop to serve PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres Baseball team one block to the Southwest. The 12th & Imperial-bound platform has no entrances of its own except at the grade crossing, opposite it is a fence that restricts access to some random dirt just before the freight track which becomes sidings just southwest of the station. The Martin Luther King promenade switches locations at the 5th Avenue grade-crossing from between the trolley and freight tracks to south of all the tracks.
