Tustin Station opened on January 18, 2002 primarily as an infill station to relieve the parking shortages at the Irvine Station (Monte Morin, "The Region: New Metrolink Station to Debut Today in Tustin", L.A. Times, Jan 18, 2002, Link). The station originally opened with 300 parking spaces (Elysse James 'OCTA to build parking structure at Tustin station' The Orange County Register, December 31, 2009, Link) but these were in such short supply that a five level parking garage was built starting in October 2010 to replace the existing parking lot and opened in September 2011. Today there are 823 spaces for the station. The station also has OCTA bus connections and iShuttle Service to Orange County John Wayne Airport and surrounding offices.
The station has two side platforms for the two track line to serve trains. These are connected by a pedestrian underpass in the middle of the platforms that have ramps and staircases down to them. The Los Angeles-bound east platform has a low-lying green fence, three modern have curved green canopy structures covering single benches and its own entrance via a path out to Dow Avenue which opened in June 2010. The Oceanside-bound platform is more substantial with the station's busy bus loop and new parking garage and has two smaller green canopies plus a more substantial longer one covering a few more benches. Jamboree Plaza passes some suburban low-rise commercial buildings before leading out to Edinger Avenue.
