Passage, 2000
Handmade Ceramic tile, mosaic, forged mild steel, bronze, and granite
By Frank Giorgini
This dots the two escalator areas that provide access to the street at this deep pre-tunnel station, although mainly at the South Ferry end. It documents the passage of time from the present day (in 2000 the World Trade Center looks present) to the Dutch discovery to wild Manhattan going down the escalators towards the platforms at this historic station. The lower mezzanine at the South Ferry end of the station is the ending part an empty ocean with gulls a railing resembling dune grass and a black model of a fish.
