New Lots Avenue is a recently renovated Canarsie Line Station, the station is located on the portion of the ROW that is on a concrete walled embankment and the station has two narrow side platforms with canopied and windscreen sections towards the middle of the platforms. Parallel to the station is where Bay Ridge freight Branch (which has followed the L train since just south of the East New York Station), curves west to continue west towards Bay Ridge, at the northern end of the station, the freight tracks are parallel to the subway tracks, and by the southern end of the station they are fully separated.
There are two staircases down from the Canarsie-bound platform, and a single one down from the Manhattan-bound platform to a station house and fare control area at street level that is directly underneath the tracks. Doors lead out from the station house to New Lots Avenue between that passes underneath the station, basically at the SW corner of Van Sinderen Avenue that the subway viaduct runs alongside.
